Cohort study: Levothyroxine treatment of subclinical hypothyroidism and association with ischaemic heart disease
This study investigated the association between levothyroxine treatment of SCH with IHD morbidity and mortality, since little is known about this.

Cases with new SCH were identified from the United Kingdom General Practitioner Research Database from 2001. All patients were followed up after subsequent treatment with levothyroxine until the date of IHD event, stroke, death, end of registration with the practice, or end of the study period (March 31, 2009), whichever occurred first. Exclusion criteria were treatment with thyroid hormones, antithyroid drugs, amiodarone, lithium carbonate, oral corticosteroids, history of IHD or cerebrovascular disease and poor quality records.
