ENaC proteins are mechanotransducers of myogenic constriction in rat posterior cerebral arteries
Abstract It has been suggested that mechanosensitive ion channels initiate myogenic responses in vessels. However, the molecular identity of the mechanosensitive ion channel complex is unknown. Although previous reports have suggested that epithelial Na+ channel (ENaC) proteins are mechanotransducers in arteries, experimental evidences demonstrating that ENaC proteins are mechanotransducers are not fully elucidated. The goal of the current study was to determine whether the ENaC is a mechanotransducer for myogenic response by providing supporting evidence in the rat posterior cerebral artery (PCA). We measured the effect of ENaC inhibition on pressure‐induced myogenic response, Ca2+ concentration and 20 kDa myosin light chain phosphorylation (MLC20). We detected βENaC and γENaC subu...
Soy Isoflavone Supplementation Not Effective In Breast Cancer Protection
A study published in Cancer Prevention Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research, reveals that breast cancer cell proliferation was not lowered with soy isoflavone supplements in a randomized human trial. Isoflavone are components of soy foods believed to have anti-estrogen activity. Results of the study are consistent with findings from earlier investigations that were designed to examine cancer prevention benefits of dietary supplements, according to lead researcher Seema A. Khan, M.D., professor of surgery at the Robert H... (Source: Health News from Medical News Today)
