This intriguing article describes two patients in India who subjected themselves voluntarily to being bitten by snakes as a way of getting high. Both patients had long histories of substance abuse, including opioids.
The first patient, a 52-year-old man, was bitten on two separate occasions by an unidentified snake. He describes #8220;a feeling of dizziness and blurred vision followed by a heightened arousal and sense of well-being lasting a few hours; a more intense state of arousal than he would experience with pentazocine injections.
